ENUM will enable new and existing providers to bring new products and services to the market. For example, Voice over IP (VoIP) is seen as a means to reduce telephony call costs over current traditional methods. ENUM can be used to interconnect VoIP provider networks thus allowing the full cost benefits of VoIP to be brought to the Irish business and consumer.

In addition it will remove the need to reference multiple contact points (e.g. phone number, web address, email address) in communication with customers, family and friends. This also means that signatures, business cards and advertising material need only reference one contact point - the telephone number.
